Brandyn Curry and his blog are back. After a successful rookie season playing (and writing) in Holland, where the former Harvard University standout guard was an All-Star, won the Dutch Basketball League championship and was named Finals MVP with Den Bosch, Curry now calls Germany's BEKO BBL home this season with Eisbären Bremerhaven and will continue to share his thoughts on playing professional basketball abroad with his blog, "3 Things I Learned This Week Playing Overseas"...
Happy Halloween everyone! Judging from my Instagram and Facebook pages I see the costumes are ready to put on display (for all ages lol). Don't mean that in a bad way, because if I was home, best believe I would have a costume ready to go out to the bar crawl my girlfriend Christina is going to be at today. So in honor of this holiday here are my three favorite Halloween memories:
Teletubbies Take Harvard Campus By Storm
This is hands down one of my favorite memories of all time not just for Halloween. Freshman year, I don't remember how the idea even came up but three of my fellow teammates (Jeff, Dee, and Christian) left the costume shop in Boston with the largest versions of the Teletubbies they had. Every year for Halloween weekend there is this party at Harvard called "Heaven and Hell" in what would become my eventual dorm/house Currier (such a coincidence I know lol) . As the name suggest, it is a two floor party where the downstairs area is "hell" and upstairs is "heaven". In the three times I went I never went into heaven. Hell was definitely where the party was because of the hip-hop music and dancing. You can only get in with a costume. Before arriving to the party we made a few detour stops at a couple pregames early in the night then partied until the event closed down. We had the time of our life running around campus doing the trademark teletubbies dance. Needless to say we killed the costume game that night and were definitely a big hit! Good times!
Every Halloween I Had When I Lived In New Jersey
For those who don't know I was actually born in New Jersey and lived there until I was 12 and moved to North Carolina. Basically my whole family lives in NJ except for a few of us. I loved holidays while living in NJ becuase I got to see all my aunts, uncles and cousins. I know everyone says it but, my family is absolutely crazy and hilarious. Love whenever I get to be with them because you can bet it's going to be a hilarious time. Every Halloween my brother, sisters and cousins would all get our costumes together and hit the streets to rack up on candy. Our town was very small and it took about an hr or so to walk through the whole thing. Everyone knew our family. Our aunts and uncles would walk around with us stopping to talk to the other families while we would race from house to house. Of course being little kids the costume choices include everything from the Power Rangers to the Ninja Turtles!! Some of my favorite childhood memories growing up without a doubt.
The Game We Are About To Play Today
As I type this we are t-minus 4 and a half hours from tip off. We have a big game against a very good team in Ludwigsburg. They are a Eurocup team that probably has the best defensive pressure out of anyone in the league so its going to be a battle espeically since it's at their place. With us sitting at 1-4 we are definitely hungry and in need of a win. I've played on every major holiday during a basketball season except for Halloween. Played in the Bahamas on Thanksgiving and against Boston Colleg on New years for Harvard. Then last year played on Christmas day in Holland. So this marks the first time I will have played on Halloween so win or lose this will be a top moment for me simply because I'm getting to play the sport I love.
Until next time, be safe out there and Happy Halloween!
