It's the end of an era for Ross Bekkering, the Bekkering Family and Scorers 1st.
After capturing his fourth Dutch Basketball Championship this season with Donar Groningen, Ross Bekkering has announced his retirement from professional basketball, capped by an outstanding career that started in Calgary and concluded with another title in Holland.
Fresh off of campus from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis and Marcellus Barksdale is already handling himself as a true professional in and out of the game. Barksdale ranks second all-time in games played (134), eighth all-time in steals (160), ninth in rebounds (593) and blocked shots (66) and 13th in assists (275) in program history and was voted Honorable Mention All-Summit League for the second straight year.
Now the versatile swingman looks back on a memorable college experience and takes us inside the offseason training plan as he prepares for the pros.
Training camp for the German National team begins in July in Würzburg, Germany, and Scorers 1st own Danilo Barthel will be one of the 17 players competing for a roster spot and represent their country.
Pierre Newton excelled as a team-leader during the 2015-16 and looks to continue this trait as a professional.
Newton earned an All-NSIC First Team selection after finishing senior campaign averaging 20.5 points, the second-best in the NSIC and led UMD with 6.9 rebounds per game, good for eighth-best in the league. The versatile swingman also shot 47.4 percent on the season including 37.0 percent from three-point range. Newton's 198 free throws made (on 233 attempts) were a Bulldog single season high with his 85.0 percent.
