Give us the scouting report on Marquise Simmons. How would you best describe yourself as a player?
Very aggressive and strong power forward man with range out to 18-20 feet. Very good "around the basket" scorer and finisher. I take pride in getting stops and rebounds for my team, I am capable of guarding on the wing as well as in the post successfully. I am a very hard working individual who wants to win anytime the score is being kept, no matter if it's practice or a game.
Looking back on your college career at St. Bonaventure, what do you appreciate the most about that experience?
Looking back to Bonaventure there is so much to appreciate. I appreciate the university itself for giving me the opportunity to get a free education while playing basketball. The total community surrounding Bonaventure is something that I will forever cherish. It made me into the person answering these questions today; the love and support there was second to none. My coaches and teammates (managers included) were all big parts of my success at Bonaventure and they stuck beside me during bad times and never gave up on me. For that I have a place in my heart for them all forever and ever.
What goal/goals have you set as you consider your first year playing professionally?
I just want to be ready when my opportunity comes along. Where ever I end up playing professionally during my career, I just want to be a sponge. I want to learn as much as I can and do what ever is needed of me to help my club win. This is a new step in my basketball career and I want to make sure that I put myself in the best possible position to learn and be successful.
Can you break down your offseason training schedule?
My offseason training schedule is pretty simple: I usually workout in the morning at LA Fitness near my home. Workouts there usually consist of running, lifting, and then basketball workouts afterward. That is my five day a week training plan. I also take yoga class on Mondays and Wednesdays at LA Fitness. I play summer league games in the afternoon after my workouts are complete as a reward for the days hard work.
Who has helped influence you as a person/player and what words of advice have they shared?
If I actually named all of the people who have influenced me along the way it would take a long time, but pretty much my influences have come from parents, teammates, friends/family. No special words of advice from these people but they all make sure I have what I need in order to be successful. They also make sure my head is on straight and that I'm focused on my goals. I owe my success to this point to these people.
