It's the end of an era for Ross Bekkering, the Bekkering Family and Scorers 1st.
After capturing his fourth Dutch Basketball Championship this season with Donar Groningen, Ross Bekkering has announced his retirement from professional basketball, capped by an outstanding career that started in Calgary and concluded with another title in Holland.
Everyone at Scorers 1st is very thankful to have had the opportunity to work alongside and for a true professional like Ross, both as a player and a person of character and leadership throughout his accomplished career.
Since becoming a pro in 2011 with Leiden, the 6-foot-8 power forward/center leaves behind a memorable journey to start this next chapter in his life. The Taber, Alberta, Canada native captured two Dutch SuperCup titles, earned All-Defensive team (2014, 2016), All-DBL Team (2013, 2016), and All-Star team (2011, 2013-2016) honors while playing in Holland with Leiden, Matrixx Magixx, and Donar Groningen. During 2015-16 season, Bekkering was selected to the DBL All-Star Team, All Defense Team, while also being named Statistical Player of the Year and Top Rebounder.
Ross now becomes the third sibling in a family of four to step away from the game having worked with Scorers 1st. Henry Bekkering played at Eastern Washington University and Calgary before winning a Dutch Cup in 2011 and retiring after the 2013 season. Their sister, Janelle, called it a career in 2015 after a successful career both in college (Gonzaga University) and professionally (Holland, Germany and France).
Scorers 1st is happy to have partnered with Ross, Henry and Janelle Bekkering on their careers and will always consider them a part of our basketball family, as we now wish Ross good luck transitioning away from the pro game.
