Tim Ohlbrecht made the most of his playing time on Day 4 at the NBA D-League Showcase as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers faced the Maine Red Claws on Wednesday afternoon in Reno, Nevada.
Ohlbrecht finished with 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-4 FT), 4 rebounds (3 offensive), 4 assists and 1 steal in 25 minutes (9 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound (+15) in roughly 18 minutes in the first half) in the Vipers 126-106 win over the Red Claws, where the 6-foot-11, 255 lbs. power forward/center from Germany displayed a wide-range of ability throughout the game.
"Tim is a good post player. You saw him attacking the hoop, but is a very good passer too," said Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey, who was on-hand and interviewed on NBA TV at halftime. "I think he is someone that will get a call-up in the future from somebody."
Last season, Ohlbrecht earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Rockets on Feb. 25, thanks to his performance at the NBA D-League Showcase and the 2013 D-League All-Star Game, as the versatile big man scored 12 points on 6-of-9 FG and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Prospects team in a 139-125 win over the Futures squad. Upon receiving his promotion to the Rockets, Ohlbrecht led the D-League in field goal percentage (.605, 164-of-271) with the Vipers and returned to the team at the end of last season to help the franchise capture their 2013 D-League Championship.
Now back in the D-League after a stint with Houston and training camp this season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Ohlbrecht is averaging 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 13 games played with 2 starts, while shooting 47% from the field and 73% from the free-throw line this season with Rio Grande.
Tim Ohlbrecht and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers are back in action at the D-League Showcase on Thursday (3:45 EST on NBA TV) against the Santa Cruz Warriors.
