This is our seventh summer operating the Scorers 1st Showcase in Las Vegas on the campus of UNLV (July 13 and 14) and each year we make it our priority to assemble the best professional coaching staff possible from around the world.
Not only does our coaching staff lend valuable experience from various international markets, but the Showcase itself also provides these coaches a first hand personal opportunity to evaluate talent and get to know players as people in our competitive and professional setting.
We are proud to present what we feel is our most accomplished pro coaching staff and to share their thoughts, features and the benefits of the upcoming Scorers 1st Showcase (registration remains open) for the players who will attend.
STEVE IBENS - OKAPI AALSTAR (BELGIUM)
"When I scout players I look for team players with individual talent. Players who are thinking team first. Positive body language is very important for me and how does a player respond on remarks from the coach. Does he run back hard on defense after a mistake, how does he react when he comes to the bench. I look also if he plays hard in defense, does he put pressure on the ball, does he help his teammates in the rotation. Offensively I look to his scoring ability his passing skills and basket IQ to make good decisions on the court." Read More
MIKE COFFIN - WBC WELS (AUSTRIA)
"I chose to coach at the Scorers 1st Showcase because I’ve never participated in a showcase either as a player or coach, looking maybe for that “diamond in the rough”. If it’s your first job don’t worry about the money. Go for the experience and the start. The money will come with your hard work and success." Read More
JOHN COFFINO - LUOYANG GOLDEN STARS (CHINA)
"I like to look for various traits in a player. Having coached overseas and at every level I have a feel of what teams are looking for and how to land a good job. One is attitude, how do they relate on and off the floor. Professionalism, do they carry themselves well and will they represent the team as a good ambassador." Read More
JESPER GUSTAVSSON - UMEA (SWEDEN)
"It’s super important to see the players live. Also having the chance to talk to them, old coaches and people that played against or with them. To draw my attention at the Showcase, I would like the players to show that they can play within a team and a system... we know that the guys in the camp can play basketball, but to sign abroad it takes a whole lot more! STEFAN SAPPENBERGHS - LEUVEN (BELGIUM)
"It’s crucial for me to get to know the person behind the basketball player. The Scorers 1st Showcase will give me an opportunity to talk to them. I need to be sure that they can handle the life as a professional player." Read More
