This offseason has given me the chance to look back on my first season playing overseas in Holland and to look ahead to this coming season in Germany.
Along with a little traveling and getting back to training, I am taking full advantage of being back at home in North Carolina right now even though this heat is something else right now.
For those who missed following the end of the season on social media, WE ARE CHAMPIONS! It's still feels surreal and I honestly cannot believe it really happened but we did it.
After a grueling semifinals with Zwolle that went to a Game 7 thriller we ended up beating our rival Groningen 3-1 to take the championship in Holland. The moment the buzzer went off and the crowd stormed our home court literally felt like a dream. You see moments like that in movies or on TV but to experience it in person was truly unbelievable. I was named Playoffs MVP and had one of my best games of the season in the final game so it felt good to end my rookie year on a high note like that.
For the first time in my life my team had finally ended our season on a win; as a champion.
Immediately after returning home I took a much needed vacation. The playoffs were a grueling experience and had taken a toll on my body. I have so much more respect for NBA players after my experience in the playoffs because that's basically how their whole season is when competing at such a high level. For my vacation I went on a cruise to the Bahamas with my very beautiful girlfriend Christina, one of my best friends Earl and his lovely girlfriend Stacey. The cruise was amazing but the best part about it had nothing to do with the cruise at all. While on the ship I received great news that I am proud to share.
I will be taking my talents across the border to Germany's BEKO BBL to play with the Eisbaren Bremerhaven for the 2015-16 season. I am truly grateful and so excited for this opportunity. Getting to play two teams from the BBL this year in the EuroChallenge I saw first hand how great of a league it is. This is the next challenge in my basketball journey and I am preparing everyday as we speak to be sure I will be ready to take it head on. I know the challenges i will be facing this upcoming year will be even greater then the ones I faced last year so that means I have to take my game to another level. Nothing more exciting then that right there. I head out August 10th and can't wait to meet my new teammates, coaches, and fans!
I just want to thank everyone from the entire SPM Shoeters organization.
My first year went as well as any could ever go and from day one they treated me like family and I can’t thank everyone enough for all the help in making this year unforgettable. I will miss y’all and will always be a Shoeter at heart.
