The 3 Biggest Basketball Conditioning Mistakes
"Just as a basketball player might get better at focusing by meditating, he or she won’t necessarily hit a higher free throw percentage. The same is true for our conditioning. You can do step ups until the cows come home, but it won’t help you make a play late in the 4th quarter down 3 after you’ve already played 35 minutes." (Robertson Training Systems)
Daily Meditation Can Keep Athletes Primed For Training
"Plenty of research suggests mindfulness meditation may improve attention and emotional well-being. This is particularly useful during high-demand, high-stress periods, when both are vulnerable due to taxed cognitive function. Now a new study out of the University of Miami finds that that meditation not only provides protection from a natural decline in attention during high-demand times, but that the more you practice, the greater that protection is." We Are Nowhere Close To The Limits Of Athletic Performance
"We’re just scratching the surface of what genetic outliers can do. The normal distribution we see in athletic capabilities is a telltale signature of many small additive effects that are all independent from each other. Ultimately, these additive effects come from gene variants, or alleles, with small positive and negative consequences on traits such as height, muscularity, and coordination. It is now understood, for example, that great height is due to the combination of an unusually large number of positive variants, and possibly some very rare mutations that have a large effect on their own." Connor McGregor Preps For Floyd Mayweather Fight With Altitude Training
"Connor McGregor has been taking full advantage, it appears, of the more custom technologies available at the UFC complex. One, the Hypoxic Lab, allows McGregor to use Hypoxico’s altitude training to increase his endurance through sprints on a stationary bike. Above his shoulder, as seen in the Instagram post, is the air vent that gives the athlete an effect of hypoxia, or a lack of oxygen availability to the body. Hypoxico claims that the science of hypoxia training allows athletes to condition their breathing abilities and oxygen storage for better performance and speedier recovery at both high and low extreme altitudes.
